APAS R&D Centre Showcase 2019

We organized the annual APAS R&D Centre Showcase 2019 featuring “5G in Smart Mobility” on 11 July 2019, with local and international experts presenting at technical seminars and R&D results showcasing. The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr Ivan Lee, Deputy Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Innovation and Technology Bureau; Mr Eric Pang, Deputy Director (Trading Services) of Electrical and Mechanical Services Department; Mr Willy Lin, Chairman of HKPC; and Dr Lawrence Cheung, CEO of APAS R&D Centre of HKPC.

The full-day event showcased a wide range of APAS R&D results, including:
- “Autonomous R&D Platform” - equipped with robust drive-by-wire capability, artificial intelligence platform, 8 HD cameras and 3D LiDAR, is controllable through 5G signal;
- “Motion Control Humanoid Robot” - with advanced motion control technology that passed the 5G control test, the humanoid robot can imitate human movements instantly;
- “SAFE 3.0” - a newly developed monitoring system using laser scanner to monitor the security of the logistics and freight transportation; - “Low Speed Autonomous Mobile Platform” - with the technology of deep learning and sensor fusion, the platform can conduct path planning with collision avoidance of stationary or moving obstacles.

Despite the technical seminar and showcase, APAS also signed several MoUs respectively with 6 organisations and corporations today, including China Mobile Hong Kong, European Automotive Council, The Autoware Foundation, UISEE, Wah For Development Company Limited and ZTE Corporation. These MoUs allow co-operations among APAS and those parties for future R&D applications development and enhancement.
