APAS and HKAA’s trial scheme on “Smart Mobile EV Charger”

APAS R&D Centre of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and Hong Kong Automobile Association (HKAA) jointly present the “Smart Mobile EV Charger” Trial Scheme to provide the city’s first emergency roadside EV charging service. Mr Mohamed D. Butt, Executive Director of HKPC, and Mr Kenneth Ng, President of HKAA, officiated at the launch today (23 March 2018).

Funded by the Innovation and Technology Fund of the HKSAR Government, APAS R&D Centre co-invented the “Smart Mobile EV Charger” with an industry partner. The mobilized EV charger – using a lithium battery pack as the EV power source – can be installed easily on a van and taken to different locations across the city to provide emergency EV charging service. The system only takes four minutes to give the battery-drained EV an extra 20 kilometre mileage, enabling it to reach the nearest charging station for proper charging.

To start from April 9, the one-year trial scheme will allow HKAA members to enjoy free mobilized EV charging solution. In addition, they can try out the HKPC-developed 50kW EV Fast Charging Station at HKAA’s Yau Ma Tei office for free.
